Have you ever wondered what it means to be Fair Trade Certified?
Thousands of growers and workers worldwide have dedicated themselves to the production of coconut oil. We have their knowledge, skill and artistry to thank for our amazing coco! Most coconut oil is grown and pressed in developing countries, which often lack fair wages and suitable working conditions. However, the best coconut farms and cooperatives understand that high-quality coco depends on the people and the environment that produce them. Fair Trade Certification verifies and acknowledges the commitment of these producers to meeting internationally recognized Fair Trade standards. Conscious Coconut is fair trade certified which means we adhere to the following standards:
Wages that meet or exceed legally established minimums
Absence of forced or child labor
Freedom of association and organization
Safe working conditions, including protection from exposure to harmful agrochemicals
Adherence to national and international labor protections
Conscious Coconut is fueled by love. Every time we open a box of tubes I think of all the love that went into getting the final product to the States. It starts with the coconut tree farmers to the truckers in the fields to the coconut oil factory workers to the all the factory workers in three facilities for packaging to all my shipping and logistics team….AND their families. That’s a LOT of people and a LOT of love. When you’re committed to love there is no beginning or end – you want everyone to be safe and have the opportunities that you do.
And it turns out, good practices + good products go hand in hand. Investing in people is the best way to secure the future of the products (and planet) we love! By purchasing Fair Trade, you join a virtuous circle that improves lives, protects the environment, and produces high-quality products for you and your family and friends to love and enjoy!
Buying Fair Trade ensures that you’re getting quality products and the people who grow and craft them get a fair deal for their hard work. This means your everyday purchases help farmers and factory workers work in safe conditions, earn extra money to invest in their communities and improve the lives of their families.
These funds are called Community Development Premiums, which are invested in much needed projects like schools, wells, and roads. Fair Trade also helps protect the environment through sustainable farming practices and by restricting GMOs and harmful pesticides. Child labor is also strictly prohibited, helping kids stay in school and build bright futures.
Believe it or not, YOU have the power to improve the world. It all starts with a simple act of sharing. Speak up. Be bold. Tell your family and friends why you support Fair Trade.
So as they say: Think globally, act locally. Help us spread the love and raise awareness about Fair Trade to improve impoverished communities around the world.
