Is Conscious Coconut sustainable?

The toxins in plastic leach into coconut oil under varying temperatures so a plastic tube doesn't work for us. We use a laminate aluminum (toothpaste) tube which allows you to work with it in all consistencies. The tube and sustainable bamboo lid are both recyclable and the box is made of recycled paper and packaged by adults with mental disabilities.

 

Are Conscious Coconut products safe for kids and pregnant or nursing mothers?

You bet they are! And highly recommended at that! Mamas can use CoCo to ward off stretch marks during pregnancy, to ease sore, chapped nipples when nursing and to keep away diaper rashes on their precious babe's behind! If you do some basic research on the health benefits on coconut oil you will discover just how SUPER this food really is. Is Conscious Coconut oil nut free? Gluten free? Soy free? Vegan?

Yes, yes, yes and YES! Many people express concern about nut allergies and coconut products. You will be happy to know… a coconut isn’t actually a nut at all! It’s a drupe! Most people who have even the most severe tree nut allergies, can typically safely eat coconuts and use coconut products. Score! It is gluten free, soy free and vegan.

 

Is Conscious Coconut oil Kosher?

Yes! While we haven’t yet gone through the Kosher check certification process to make it official, coconut oil is indeed Kosher! “Sababa!”

 

Is Conscious Coconut oil caffeine-free?

While coconut oil has been known for giving you a needed energy boost, coconuts are a naturally caffeine free food! The fatty acids (MCFAs) in coconut oil are metabolized by the liver and used as fuel, so they give you 'faster' energy than other oils, BUT not in a crazy 'sugar high' kind of way. CoCo is thermogenic, raises the metabolism and also boosts thyroid function!

 

Why does the consistency of my oil change/look different?

How do you know winter is coming? Your coconut oil is solid! It’s in liquid form? Must be summa summa summatime! (Did you just hear DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince circa 2002? Yeah… us too!) The melting point for coconut oil is 76 degrees, so if it’s solid, warm your tube in your hands or run under warm water. If it's runny, just toss it in the fridge for a few minutes. In any of these cases, the benefits don’t change!

Follow these steps to get your oil out of the tube:

• Massage the tube with your hands or run under warm water for a moment if the oil is hard.
• Coconut oil may still be on the denser side at the opening - so use a q-tip or bobby pin to clear the neck of your tube. Voila!

When does Conscious Coconut oil expire?

Since coconut oil is full of saturated fats, it’s a very stable oil. Its fatty-acid composition makes it fairly resistant to spoilage. It also contains anti-viral, antibacterial, anit-microbial, and antifungal properties that naturally help reduce contamination. Our extra-virgin variety has a long shelf life: 2 years sealed and approximately 1 year once your CoCo is opened to make sure you're using the freshest coconut oil possible. But with so many uses... who can keep it around that long anyway?

What is the nutritional information for Conscious Coconut Oil?

1 TSBP of coconut oil is 117 calories and 14 grams of fat. But have no fear, it’s full of healthy, GOOD fat! Over half of the fat in coconut oil is from lauric acid! Also, it has an unusually high amount of medium-chain triglycerides. These babies are A LOT harder for the body to convert into stored fat, and easier to burn off than long-chain triglycerides.

 

Is Conscious Coconut oil a meal replacement?

As much as we would love to say we could live solely off coconut oil alone, it’s sadly NOT a meal replacement. It does however, make a killer addition to just about any creation coming out of your kitchen! After all, it is made with 100% pure love. <3

 

Are your coconuts harvested responsibly?

We are both cruelty free and Fair Trade for humans. We would never dream of using or abusing animals - we’re fueled by love and our Fair Trade certification ensures that!

 

We love the packaging of your product. How did you come up with the design?

"Right after I decided to start Conscious Coconut, I boarded a flight with an over-sized jar of coconut oil by accident. As TSA was tossing my jar in the trash, I realized I had to put coconut oil in something convenient, since my travel essential had just been chucked. I went back overseas in 2014 to work directly with our factories to figure out how to package coconut oil differently. The toxins in plastic leach into coconut oil so a plastic tube wasn’t going to work for us. Coconut oil is sassy so we use a laminate aluminum (think toothpaste!) tube which allows you to work with it in all consistencies. The tube is a condensed version of all my favorite colors & textures. Turquoise, ombre, bamboo?! It brings a smile and sense of peace every time I pick up a box & tube - even four years later. Plus the tube, lid, and packets are recyclable and our boxes are made of recycled paper and packaged by adults with mental disabilities.
